Michiko Lacanienta is a grade 7 night high school student of Siena College Taytay. She is one of the twenty financially challenged students under LFI-A Better Chance Foundation Night High School Educational Assistance Project for SY 2016-2017 at Sienna College Taytay, Rizal.
The Night High Scholarship Program of Siena College was designed to give bright but financially challenged students opportunity to get a quality secondary education.
Michiko is the eldest of 2 siblings who is happy living with her family in a small house filled with love and support. Sewing became their family’s source of income when his father was forced to stop working as driver due to his eye condition. Her mother makes stuffed head of “hello kitty” character in different colors and sells it in the market twice or thrice a week during “tiange” (bazaars). His father who lost his sight in one eye (left) helps buy materials for their small business and is the one who brings Michiko to and from school using their bicycle.
The family is very thankful that Michiko passed the screening and became a Night High School scholar. With the family’s current financial condition sending Michiko to school is a big challenge. Michiko’s dream is to become a flight stewardess someday.
In supporting this night high school program Lao Foundation aims to make a difference in the lives of these fortunate but deserving students.
To further help and assist the family, LFI provided Michiko’s father information on Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation’s free eye check-up and treatment for in need individuals.
