In addition to its three sponsored schools in Quezon City and Laguna, Lao Foundation extended its reach across Marikina River to Manggahan Elementary School and Santolan Elementary School located in Pasig City.
Both “big” schools have a population of 3,061 and 4,529 students for Manggahan Elementary School (MES) and Santolan Elementary School (SES), respectively. The principals of the schools signified their interest to have the Binhi English literacy project in their schools during LFI’s exploratory visit in June 2016. If all goes well, the project will address their problem on non-reader and slow reader students.
True enough the results of the pre-testing, done last June 28, 2016 on grade 2 students recommended by the teachers, manifested the need of both schools for the project. 18% of the grade 2 students of MES, while 10% of the grade 2 students of SES failed the pre-test.
Two beginning reading classes (kit 1) will be piloted in each school starting July 25, 2016 under the LFI-Binhi English Literacy Project. Parents’ orientations were held last July 21, 2016 which were well attended.
LFI is looking forward to the successful run of the DepEd accredited Binhi English literacy curriculum of BINHI English Literacy Foundation in these two Pasig schools.
