ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. (previously ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc.) is the non-stock, non-profit socio-civic organization of the ABS-CBN Corporation that facilitates social programs and outreach to the public.
ALKFI is a committed advocate for public service in strategic sector of Philippine society. It aims to awaken hope in the Filipino through implementing projects via multi-sectoral partnerships in the spirit of bayanihan. These are in child care and protection, education, environment, disaster management and community development.
Bantay Bata 163 is a social welfare program of the ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation. Launched in 1997, it aims to protect disadvantaged and at-risk children through a nationwide network of social services. Among these services is the “Bantay Edukasyon Scholarship Program”, an intervention program to bring back hope for the child abuse victim survivors.
It was established in June 1998 as a long-term solution to help alleviate poverty, which was found to be one of the main causes of child abuse.
Thus, aside from education-related fees given to a scholar, below are the integral components of the program to monitor the overall well-being of the child and his or her family.
- Counseling and Family therapy
- Monthly Values and Formation Meetings
- Tutorials and group activities for the scholars
- Refresher courses in parenting, family relations, and communication skills of parents/guardians
- Regular home and school visits
- Referrals to agencies for livelihood and medical assistance among other
Another project under Bantay Bata 163 is the Community Outreach Project which is geared towards preventing the incidence of child abuse through education and public information.
Initially, the ALKFI’s primary responsibilities were to generate welfare funds by broadcasting the plight of those in need of assistance and ensuring the proper allocation and utilization of solicited help. Now, they encouraged individual, organization and other sectors to take part in building a better future for the children. A quote from ALKFI’s flyer:
“All it takes is a loving and compassionate heart.
A willingness to help improve the lives of these children.
A dream to make a difference in this world.”
