On 29 September 2015, Lao Foundation participated in a meeting convened by the education committee of the League of Corporate Foundations (LCF) held at San Miguel Foundation Corporate Affairs Office, Conference Room.
Under the agenda “Teachers’ Development and Students’ Development Program”, the meeting was facilitated by Ms. Shing Torremana, LCF Education Committee chair, and also the manager of NYK-TDG Friendship Foundation.
The resource person was DepEd NCR Regional Director Dr. Luz Almeda who talked about current areas of weaknesses in both content and implementation of the K+12 Program and education system in general.
1. Teaching strategies of teachers particularly in the subject areas of Science, Math, Social Studies and English.
2. Basic skills that the students need to be globally competitive: analytical thinking, creative thinking, and problem solving.
The LCF education committee agreed to work on projects aligned with DepEd’s efforts in addressing these weak areas. They suggested the following:
1. Enhancing teachers’ science teaching knowledge and skills,
2. Assist DepEd in the seniors’ (grade 11 &12) work immersion.
This is similar to OJT for Techvoc, or internship for College.
In the coming days, LCF education committee will be busy in meetings with Director Almeda to detail and concretize a project. Also in attendance were LCF members from Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation, Knowledge Channel Foundation, NYK-TDG Foundation, PHINMA Foundation, Rebisco Foundation, Ayala Foundation, San Miguel Foundation, and Petron Foundation,
